My Late Senatorial Secretaryship is a short essay written by Mark Twain. It was written in about 1867 and tells the story of Mark Twain working for a senator who does not find his work all that satisfactory which is hardly surprised because while he does follow the letter of the man's orders the spirit is not exactly what the man meant, in fact it could hardly be worse if he had tried.Although this is mostly a joke it does put into the light the way that politicians speak and act in a way that is interesting and unique because it points out all the things that the would never do.

Samuel Langhorne Clemens (November 30, 1835—April 21, 1910), better known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American author and humorist. He was lauded as the "greatest American humorist of his age," and William Faulkner called Twain "the father of American literature." He is also a master of short story.

He said, “I gave you a letter from certain of my constituents in the State of Nevada, asking the establishment of a post-office at Baldwin’s Ranch, and told you to answer it, as ingeniously as you could, with arguments which should persuade them that there was no real necessity for an office at that place.”

If any letters came there, you couldn’t read them, you know; and, besides, such letters as ought to pass through, with money in them, for other localities, would not be likely to get through, you must perceive at once; and that would make trouble for us all.
