For all the media coverage that Steve Jobs has attracted throughout his storied career, there’s a tangible sense among the general public that we never fully knew the real man behind the legend. This book aims to fill in some of the gaps of the traditional Jobs’ biographies. It focuses less on what we already know (e.g., he created the iPod!), and more on the parts of his life we hear less about (his humanity, compassion, and impact outside of computers).

The book begins with a few Steve Jobs stories that reveal not only his genius and vision, but also his compassion and humanity. After his death, people everywhere that knew Jobs, including those who had had only superficial contact with Jobs (or sometimes no direct contact at all), began telling stories about their experiences with him, and a clearer picture of the enigma began to emerge.

Michael Essany is a former E!Entertainment Television host and producer widely recognizable for his appearances on Oprah, The Tonight Show, Access Hollywood, Today, ET, and Inside Edition. Michael is also a bestselling author, columnist, and blogger whose work and accomplishments have been featured in the pages of Time, People, Newsweek, Entertainment Weekly, Details, Maxim, and TV Guide.

Since his untimely death at age 56 in October 2011, Steve Jobs’ most famous quotes, speeches, and anecdotes have been read, retold, re-watched, and reanalyzed to no end. Attempting to quantify the discourse about Jobs, the number of times his legacy has been discussed is probably roughly comparable to the number of iPhones that have been sold since the revolutionary Apple smartphone was first introduced in 2007.
