A passage about titles of our textbook2016-12-23
By accident, when skimming over the contents of our textbook, I find it a bit interesting that all the titles of 15 chapters are titled as basic terms, such as “X Culture” (like “Greek Culture”, “Roman Culture”), or “-ism” (like “Romanticism”, “Socialism”), or “X Movement” including the name of that very movement (like “The Reformation”, “The Modernist Movement”), with one exception for Chapter 13 which titled as “The Challenge to the Tradition”. Literally, it suggests that extraordinary thoughts and insights mentioned in this chapter are contradictory and challenging to traditional ones. As for the name of the title itself, also indicts a unique fact that although there are many terms, such as “will to power” and “nihilism”, constituting those challenges to tradition, but it is difficult to generalize a specific term to represent this kind of tendency or current.
